Some identify the rich phosphate deposits in Western Sahara as one of the reasons why Morocco raised claims to Western Sahara in the first place. ‘One Kuwait in the Arab world is enough’, King Hassan II allegedly said in justification of his country’s 1975 invasion of mineral rich Sahara
